Tom Hanks To Be Honored At Outfest Legacy Awards
Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks will be honored for his depiction of a dying gay man in the 1993 film Philadelphia at the 2015 Outfest Legacy Awards in November.
The Forrest Gump star will be feted with the “Trailblazer Award” at a service in Los Angeles for his Oscar-winning performance.
An announcement from Outfest board co-president Ari Karpel read, “Over two decades later, Tom Hanks’ performance as a gay man with AIDS in Philadelphia remains as a milestone illustration of a risk well taken. His Oscar acknowledgment speech, in which he smoothly honored two gay men who were compelling in his life, sent a crucial message amid a period of emergency.”
The Kids Are All Right executive Lisa Cholodenko will also be honored with the Visionary Award.
Previous honorees have included Hilary Swank and producers Lee Daniels and Roland Emmerich.
