THE NOTEBOOK TV SERIES IN THE WORKS AT THE CW
Ten years after Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams brought audiences to tears with their roles in The Notebook, Noah Calhoun and Allie Hamilton are coming back to the small screen.
EW says the series “will follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they build their lives and their future together against the backdrop of racial politics, economic inequities, and social mores of post-World War II of the late 1940s in North Carolina.”
Gosling and McAdams first brought Noah and Allie to life back in 2004, in director Nick Cassavetes’ now-classic romantic movie. On screen, the two couldn’t have seemed more in love. But offscreen, the story is differant.
“Maybe I’m not supposed to tell this story, but they were really not getting along one day on set. Really not,” Cassavetes told VH1 last year, around the time of the film’s 10th anniversary. “And Ryan came to me…and he says, ‘Nick come here.’ And he’s doing a scene with Rachel and he says, ‘Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?’ I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. ”
The two ended up going into a room with a producer and “screaming and yelling at each other,” Cassavetes recalled. “And it got better after that. They had it out…I think Ryan respected her for standing up for her character and Rachel was happy to get that out in the open. The rest of the film wasn’t smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing.”
As fans know, of course, the tension between them ultimately turned romantic. Gosling and McAdams dated from 2005 to 2007, with a brief reunion in 2008.
