The Empire Story
The mid-90’s when hip-hop was top genre. To tribute that, Puff Daddy performed in an old-school red tracksuit with Lil’ Kim, Mase, and Faith Evans to Bad Boy Records, the label he started 20 years ago, the cast of Empire came out to perform songs from their hit TV show, from Jay Z, Suge Knight, and Puffy who recently threatened to sue Fox for stealing his life story.
Empire centers on Lucious Lyon, his ex-wife, Cookie, and their three children, Andre, Jamal, and Hakeem work and sing and to control their billion dollar Empire, a record label that was built on drug money earned back when Lucious and Cookie were nobodies in the City of Brotherly Love. As everyone also knows, the show grabbed the world in January and refused to let it go. By the time the season finale aired in March, with seventeen million people watching, it became the first show in the history of the Nielsen ratings to gather a bigger audience with each episode. Empire reacch its success
What makes the show so much fun to watch is that it is a brilliant music mash-up and obession with fashion. But, Empire’s impact on the fashion world more evident than at the CFDA Awards this summer, a show that featured lengthy sermons on street style from Kanye West and Pharrell. Also, What keeps Empire from devolving into a cartoon, is the Bonnie and Clyde chemistry between Howard and Henson. The other thing that special in the show is the show perfect timing and makes it so enjoying.
