Marchesa – the symbol of glamour and sophistication
When Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig first met at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London in 2001, nobody knew that the golden era of one of the brightest star in the fashion world had just begun. The brand Marchesa was born! And until then, it keeps getting our attention with ist brave designs, highly aesthetic pieces and a specific mix of vintage and Asian inspired fashion.
Marchesa – elegance and style
Georgina Chapman was a graduate of the Wimbledon school of Art when she met Keren who graduated from Brighton Art college and who was primarily focused on print and embroidery design. The two together entered the joint venture of creating a very successful brand, known for its specific designs and authentic fashion expressions.
We were discovering a little bit more about the beginnings of this famous brand and found some interesting facts. The very name stems from the founders’ inspiration by Marchesa Luisa Casati, who was a belle epoque aristocrat renowned for her flamboyant tastes.
However, the start of these two talented women wasn’t easy. Since Georgina Chapman is married to the famous producer Harvey Weinstein, they were often called out of having nothing but a lot of money. The rumors were even spread that the actresses chose Marchesa gowns for red carpet events just to win Weinstein’s favor. Nevertheless, the talent of these two women and the quality of their fashion prevailed and finally spoke for itself.
Besides their professional careers, they are also devoted mothers. Balancing a career and motherhood was never an easy task for any woman, but they say that they try their best to balance professional and family duties.
The first celebrity that wore their designs was Renee Zellweger for her role in the “Bridget Jones’ diary”. They were pretty unknown at that time and they said they will always be grateful to her for choosing to wear their dresses.
