Feminist Mad Men is coming to HBO And It Stars Lena Dunham
If you are one of many who greatly enjoyed Mad Men- you probably still mourn the ending of the TV show. But fear not, Lena Dunham comes to the rescue! Her new show is called Max, and is set in the publishing world of the 1960’s. It has just been ordered by HBO.
Lena Dunham herself will not be starring in the new series, but she is set to direct a pilot episode. Maxine Woodruff is the name of the primary character, and she will be portrayed by Lisa Joyce. Maxine is a young magazine writer who quickly gets involved in the second feminist wave during the year of 1963. You might know Joyce from TV shows such as Boardwalk Empire and The Good Wife.
Topic of feminism is something Lena often writes about, she recently published Lenny, a newsletter that deals with feminism, style, health, politics and friendship. Among the most prominent articles from the newsletter was one Jennifer Lawrence wrote about sexism and wage gap in Hollywood.
HBO will have many female-led shows this season. Besides Lena, comedians Whitney Cummings and Sarah Silverman are both preparing pilot episodes for HBO. You Tube star Issa Rae is said to be in process of making a TV pilot as well, titled Insecure. She is developing the pilot with The Nightly Show’s Larry Wilmore. We are particularly excited for this one since Issa’s talents are obvious to all who follow her on You Tube, and it is always exciting to witness a new star rise.
Unfortunately, Lena’s hit TV show Girls is rumored to approaching its final season this year. Lena herself says that it is not yet set in stone, but currently – the beloved story of these young women is envisioned to end the next season.
