Fashion Editorial: Kate Upton By Carter
For this month’s cover shoot, model-phenom Kate Upton took a jaunt to New York’s Hamptons to play the bombshell next door in looks from Michael Kors, Lanvin, and Fendi €”curated by ELLE Creative Director Joe Zee. Hairstylist Harry Josh: “[Photographer] Carter Smith was €¨intrigued by the femmes fatales of antique murder mysteries.” Makeup Artist Polly Osmond: “We kept the makeup simple: a smoky eye, a natural lip.” Assistant Fashion Editor Sarah Schussheim: “Kate had fun listening to Daft Punk and playing around on set.” Josh: “She has such a natural energy €”and couldn’t stop gushing about her horse, Robbie.” Sounds like Upton’s MO is our kind of sexy.
Katherine Elizabeth “Kate” Upton is an American model and actress, known for her appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Upton was named Rookie of the Year following her first appearance in 2011 and was the cover model for the 2012 and 2013 issues. She was also the subject of the 100th anniversary Vanity Fair cover. Upton has also appeared in the financially successful films Tower Heist (2011) and The Other Woman (2014).
While comfortable in her own skin, and unafraid to try very daring looks, Upton revealed to Details magazine in August that she shies away from going fully nude in her shoots.
“For me those photos are art,” she said. “Your body is art, your body is beautiful, and to be photographed in that way is amazing and it’s received in a very positive way. But with social media and the Internet and not so great blogs and the attention like that, I don’t think that my pictures would be received in the way that I’d want them to be received. That’s why I’ve stayed away from them.”
And while Kate is often praised for her healthy figure, she admitted in April that she does, at times, feel insecure in the way she looks.
“Every person has insecurities,” she said. “But this is the body I was given, I appreciate it and I try to take care of it every day as best I can, but I always enjoy my life. So I’m not going to let my insecurities stop me from enjoying life.”
