BANANA REPUBLIC TEAMWORK
At the beginning of the month Banana Republic descovered that they’d partnered with the CFDA to make a program that encourages developing American-based designers who presents their collections in their local cities. For their first collection, they matched up with Timo Weiland, a collection for men and women designed by Timo Weiland, Donna Kang, and Alan Eckstein. I caught up with the trio ahead of their debut at Banana Republic’s spring 2016 presentation to get a sneak peek and learn more about the teamwork.
Who is the Timo Weiland with Banana Republic woman?
She definitely has a feel of adventure and playfulness. She is looking for clothes that can easily fit in with her various lifestyle.
What was the process like?
Banana Republic’s access has been truly collaborative and in support of our idea as a brand. We’re excited to debut the Timo Weiland with Banana Republic capsule and thankful for the global spotlight that this teamwork has brought about and how this can help grow our business!
What’s your favorite look?
Alan, Donna, and I [Timo] all love the crack combination cocktail dress in coral red. There is high degree of something new in terms of the neat, wall, and drape. The dress was based on an iconic signature dress of ours that was wonderfully reimagined and made new through the teamwork with Banana Republic.
The Timo Weiland brand has a slightly edgier style than Banana Republic — how did you all translate that aesthetic into your Banana Republic pieces?
As a brand, Timo Weiland has a modern prep-meets-street aesthetic that is very upbeat and interesting. This went into seamlessly a cool combination with Banana Republic, a classic American staple.
